Pharmacological properties

Oxytetracycline possesses a wide spectrum of antibacterial activity. It has a bacteriostatic effect on most gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms including Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp., Clostridium spp., Actinobacillus spp., Mycoplasma spp., Rickettsia spp., Chlamydia spp., Proteus spp., Fusobacterium necrophorum, Bacteroides spp. Mechanism of action is based on inhibition of protein synthesis of microbial cell and violation of RNA synthesis.

Indications

Treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tract, genitourinary and musculoskeletal system, mastitis, postsurgical wound and other primary and secondary infections of bacterial etiology, caused by oxytetracycline-sensitive microorganisms in cattle, sheep and pigs.

Dosage

OXYLONG® 20% retard is administered to cattle, sheep and pigs once by deep intramuscular route at a dose of 1 ml of solution per 10 kg bw (i.e. 20 mg of oxytetracycline/kg bw). If necessary, administration of the drug can be repeated after 72 hours. In piglets, weighing less than 10 kg, the maximum single dose is 1 ml per animal. In case of atrophic rhinitis, the drug is used three times at the same dosage on 3, 12 and 21 days . If the required amount of the drug exceeds 20 ml  for cattle, 10 ml for pigs and 5 ml for sheep and goats, the drug is administered at several injection sites.
