Volume growth, export development and increased level of state support - the experts of agribusiness sector defined major trends of animal protein market development


The analytical business session "Agribusiness Leaders" by VIC Group was hosted at the "MVC: Cereals - Mix Feed - Veterinary - 2023" trade fair. For two days, the leading industry experts discussed the key trends and potential scenarios for the animal protein market.

General Director of the National Union of Swinebreeders Yuri Kovalev spoke about the pork industry, noting that Russia is facing the major strategic challenge for the next 10 years - to enter the top 5 world exporters of pork.

Sergey Lakhtyukhov, General Director of the National Poultry Union, reported that the Russian poultry industry would see an increase in export, consolidation and consumption in the next few years. He also quoted the UN FAO forecast, stating that poultry will soon occupy 50% of the entire meat diet of people.

Artem Belov, General Director of the National Union of Milk Producers, named the factors affecting the sustainable and successful development of the dairy industry in the long-term strategy: 1) an export-oriented model; 2) consolidation in the raw material and processing sector; 3) efficiency of milk production and processing; and 4) state support for critical areas.

Andrey Dalnov, Head of Rosselkhozbank industry expertise center, outlined the proposed scenarios for the meat market in 2023 based on consensus forecasts. He highlighted the need for meat producers to be prepared for any developments, working through different scenarios and their actions.

Executive Director of the National Veterinary Association Timur Chibilyaev gave an overview of the current Russian production of veterinary drugs and spoke about trends and forecasts. In his opinion, Russia can increase exports of veterinary drugs up to 30 billion rubles by 2030.

Anatoly Velmatov, Executive Director of the National Association of Turkey Producers, spoke about the Russian turkey market, highlighting three major development trends: growth of key production indicators, increase in the deep processing products and exports.

Sergey Yushin, head of the National Meat Association, called attention to the beef market development. Though this type of meat is the most expensive, the demand for it in Russia remains higher than in other countries of the world. The expert suggested that support for large, medium and small farms is necessary to increase livestock and production of beef. This will provide producers with all the resources available in the country and allow Russia to take its share in the global export market.

Dr. Ma Chuang, Vice President of Beijing Boyar Communication Co, spoke about China's animal protein market and prospects for cooperation with Russia, claiming that the dairy industry has particular potential for imports.
